PhD thesis on the ‘Comprehensive optimisation of fast-rotating high pressure centrifugal fans’.

Institute for Construction Technology and Technical Design, University of Stuttgart

When it comes to protecting resources and the environment, the development of energy-efficient industrial fans is becoming increasingly important. The targeted use of fast-rotating and compact fans represents a sensible solution for high air pressure applications. Increasing rotation speed and performance requires the optimisation of the entire system in terms of the degree of effectiveness, component stress and acoustics. Improving air flow in the wheel and casing and reducing the bearing load and force on the wheel caused by centrifugal forces and vibration stresses are just some of the issues involved. The aim of Stefan Recker’s PhD thesis funded by the Margarete Müller-Bull Foundation is to analyse various problem areas and modes of action and to devise a comprehensive solution enabling optimisation of the configuration and design.
